NHL free agency: Few Intriguing players remain on the market

NHL general managers wake up on Day 2 of the free agent signing season to discover there are few fetching players left to sign.

At 45, Jaromir Jagr still could help a power play and add spark to a team’s offense.

Alexander Radulov and Patrick Marleau are the only high-profile players still in the marketplace, and Marleau could follow Joe Thornton back to the San Jose Sharks.

The Canadiens also wanted to keep Radulov, but he chose to explore his options.

Intriguing players still in the marketplace:

1. Left wing Thomas Vanek: Scored 17 goals last season, and could net 20-25 on a contending team.

2. Defenseman Andrei Markov: The assumption that he would return to the Canadiens hasn’t happened. At 38, he had 36 points and was +18 last season.

3. Right wing Jaromir Jagr: At 45, Jagr still could help a power play and add spark to a team’s offense.

4. Right wing Drew Stafford: Good fit for a team looking for secondary scoring. Scored 21 goals two seasons ago.

5. Right wing Nail Yakupov: Five years ago, he was the No. 1 pick overall. He’s still only 23. If you want to roll the dice on a minimum contract, Yakupov is an entertaining option.
