NEW YORK — The day after the night that brought this NCAA tournament’s grandest highlight, Florida guard Chris Chiozza was adjusting to his new status as a buzzer-beating hero.

The Florida Gators celebrate with guard Chris Chiozza (11) after he hit The Shot to beat Wisconsin.

“I heard from everybody that I ever met,” Chiozza said Saturday as the Gators prepared for a Sunday clash with Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina in the Elite Eight. “It was a long night, but I tried not to talk to too many people, just my family and people that I’m pretty close with. I tried to get my rest. It was tough, though.”

More than 200 text messages filled Chiozza’s phone, he said, so to erase the overwhelming notification number, he marked all as read.

Chiozza isn’t sure how many times he’s watched the highlight of his shot, but he is sure that he enjoys seeing it — and hearing about it, too.

Surely, he’ll be doing that for years to come.

Florida Gators guard Chris Chiozza (11) makes a three point basket to beat the Wisconsin Badgers in overtime in the semifinals of the East Regional of the 2017 NCAA Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
