OAKLAND — The San Antonio Spurs are on Kawhi Leonard ankle watch again.

Early in the third quarter of Game 1 of Western Conference finals against the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena on Sunday afternoon, the Spurs small forward and resident MVP candidate appeared to turn his ailing left ankle while running near the San Antonio bench after a made three-pointer. Moments later, with Leonard already hobbling but staying in the game, he shot a long jumper from the left corner and appeared to land on the foot of Warriors center Zaza Pachulia.

After hitting the two ensuing free throws to push San Antonio's lead to 78-55, Leonard headed for the locker room soon thereafter, with San Antonio general manager R.C. Buford among those joining him. Minutes later, Leonard was ruled out for the remainder of the game — which the Spurs went on to lose, 113-111.

Leonard added that he was unsure if he’d play in Game 2 on Tuesday.

“We’ll see tomorrow and the next day to see how I’m feeling,” he said.

Leonard first injured the ankle in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets, when he missed the end of regulation and overtime of the Spurs win. He missed all of Thursday's closeout Game 6 in Houston as well.
