The Cleveland Cavaliers reached a deal with Goodyear and will wear a patch with the tire maker’s wingfoot logo on their jerseys starting in 2017-18, it was announced today.

The deal is worth $10 million per season, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt.

The person requested anonymity because the figures weren't made public.

“It was just meant to be that a global, iconic brand like Goodyear is our neighbor headquartered in Akron, Ohio, and shares the same DNA of basketball, community purpose and drive for success as the Cavs,” Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski said in a statement. “The treads and threads of this partnership are real, and we couldn’t be more proud to wear the Goodyear Wingfoot and come together to champion Northeast Ohio.”

The Cavs are the sixth team to announce a patch deal, following the Philadelphia 76ers (StubHub), Boston Celtics (General Electric), Brooklyn Nets (Infor), Sacramento Kings (Blue Diamond) and Utah Jazz (Qualtrics).

Patch deals with other NBA teams have ranged from just under $5 million per season to $8 million per season. The $10 million per year deal is the highest in the NBA, in part because the Cavs are one of the league’s best teams and are on national TV more than most teams.

The patch will go on the left side of the jersey opposite the logo for Nike, which takes over as the NBA’s official apparel provider next season.

In a unique addition to the deal, Turner Sports will create custom-branded content and advertising for the Cavs and Goodyear, according to the news release.

The Cavs and Goodyear will donate $1 million to support STEM programs (science, technology, engineering and math) to Cleveland and Akron schools.
