Ricky Stenhouse Jr. jokes about social media posts with Danica Patrick

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Ricky Stenhouse Jr. said you can’t believe everything you see on his longtime girlfriend and fellow NASCAR driver Danica Patrick’s social media accounts.

“She only posts the ones she beats me on,” Stenhouse said at Daytona 500 media day on Wednesday. “She doesn’t post the ones when I beat her.”

Part of the renovations to the couple’s home in Mooresville, N.C., included an upgrade of Stenhouse’s home gym. It now has most the equipment found in CrossFit gyms: barbells, those rubber Olympic plates known as “bumpers," kettlebells and a climbing rope.

“There are definitely workouts that I’m better at and there are workouts that I excel at,”  Stenhouse continued. “Anything with legs – squats, jumping and lunges – she kills me. I can’t keep up. Any upper-body type stuff, I’m definitely more competitive.”

For Valentine’s Day, Stenhouse got Patrick a new treadmill. While it’s not the kind of the gift most would find appropriate for a such a romantic occasion, Patrick said on Instagram that Stenhouse is “a man knows the way to my heart.”

Patrick’s dedication to fitness spills over, as one would expect, to her diet, something Stenhouse said he knows all to well.

“Whatever she cooks I eat,” he said. “I do eat a lot healthier and I do work out more. There are times I don’t each super healthy. This whole week, I’ve been at the dirt track and it turns out they don’t have a whole lot of healthy stuff there.”

Stenhouse, however, said he finds a way to sneak in some sweets and detailed a Krispy Kreme run Tuesday with Patrick and drivers Ryan Newman and Kyle Larson.

“We were on our way back, the hot sign was on over at Krispy Kreme so on, so we pulled in,” Stenhouse said. “Newman and I, between getting from Krispy Kreme to here, we had a four apiece. Danica was not happy. She said, ‘I can’t believe you ate three of those.’ She didn’t see me eat the fourth.”
