Will the Brewers games be carried on Bally Sports Wisconsin all year? The latest on the TV situation in Milwaukee

As tumultuous as things have been for Diamond Sports Group — the organization that operates Bally Sports Wisconsin and other similar networks carrying local professional sports — those looking for Milwaukee Brewers broadcasts this year will almost certainly be looking in the same place as last year.

Here's what to expect for the 2024 Brewers season:

Will Brewers games still be on Bally Sports Wisconsin for the 2024 season?

There's still some chaos to sort through as Diamond Sports Group continues to work through bankruptcy, but the short answer is: Yes, expect the Brewers to be on Bally Sports Wisconsin all year.

That means you can find the games in the same places as last year, including on cable, satellite and through the Bally Sports Wisconsin app. Some games will get bounced to streaming services or national networks, including a game on AppleTV+ on April 12.

All 162 games also will air on the Brewers Radio Network, including Newsradio 620 WTMJ in Milwaukee.

What Brewers games will air on national networks and streaming services?

As a quick aside, here are games that won't appear on Bally Sports Wisconsin. The schedule is subject to change and probably will for a couple games during the year.

• May 11 vs. St. Louis (Fox)
• May 24 at Boston (AppleTV+)
• June 22 at San Diego (Fox)
• July 6 at Los Angeles Dodgers (Fox)
• Aug. 17 vs. Cleveland (Fox)
• Aug. 31 at Cincinnati (Fox)
• Games June 29 vs. the Chicago Cubs and Aug. 21 at St. Louis will air on Fox Sports 1 but also air simultaneously on Bally Sports Wisconsin.
• Plus, 13 Sunday home games will air on Telemundo Wisconsin.

Wasn't Major League Baseball trying to end its relationship with Diamond Sports Group (and Bally Sports channels)?

Yes, Major League Baseball had been hoping (and still hopes?) to wriggle free of club contracts with Diamond Sports, and that happened in a couple cases, like with the Padres, when Diamond missed a monthly payment to the organization.

MLB was able to start handling those broadcasts and offer them through traditional television options, as well as the MLB.com direct-to-consumer option for those in-market. In most instances, including with the Brewers, Wisconsin fans can get the MLB app and see out-of-market games but wouldn't be able to see Brewers games.

But the deal between Diamond and the Brewers is a little tighter, and the Brewers are one of five teams that have sold streaming rights to the service (hence the availability of the app, which isn't available for many markets). Diamond hasn't yet reached a point with the Brewers where it has breached the contract.

And there's more; with news in January that Amazon is planning an investment into Diamond, the organization has found new life and could emerge from bankruptcy proceedings still able to air Brewers games.

"Major League Baseball would like to reclaim all of the broadcast and streaming rights from DSG, which is why the league initially opposed the Amazon investment, but if the company’s restructuring is approved by the court, that will be difficult to do until each of the individual contracts expires," said Mike Nelson of The Streamable, which closely monitors and covers the streaming ecosystem. "Of course, with Amazon joining the equation, that could give MLB more confidence in moving forward with DSG."

You just said Amazon. Does that mean Brewers games could be available on Prime Video?

Don't hold your breath.

"While Amazon is planning an investment in DSG, until all of the company’s refinancing plans are approved by the bankruptcy court, nothing is official," Nelson said. "So, for the time being, there will not be any MLB games streaming on Prime Video, aside from the previously announced New York Yankees contests.

"No details have been announced about Amazon’s plans for the investment, but the general consensus is that, at least at first, it will be limited to Bally Sports+ being available via the Prime Video store. However, Amazon has long-discussed launching a sports-specific streaming service, which could be the ultimate goal for the teams’ streaming rights."

In other words, Amazon could offer the Bally Sports service as a "tile" in the "channels" section and would still be requiring a fee from users to access, not all that dissimilar from the current options.

Will some Brewers games be offered on over-the-air television like some Bucks games this season?

It's not currently on the schedule. The 10 Bucks broadcasts moved from Bally Sports Wisconsin to traditional airwaves were a result of an agreement between the NBA and Diamond as part of the bankruptcy restructuring; there isn't anything like that yet in place with MLB.

How much does the Bally Sports Wisconsin app cost?

Nelson said the $20 price actually isn't too bad, compared to other markets.

"While there's been angst about Bally and DSG, the few teams that are streamed on Bally Sports+ are significantly cheaper than what other in-market fans are paying for their teams this year," he said. "The median price is $76.99 per month in other markets, compared to the Brewers' $19.99 per month on Bally Sports Plus."

Will the announcers be the same for this year's Brewers broadcasts?

Expect the same lineup of announcers for all games, including Brian Anderson and Jeff Levering as play-by-play announcers, color analysts Bill Schroeder, Tim Dillard and Vinny Rottino, plus sideline reporter Sophia Minnaert and studio hosts Craig Coshun and Stephen Watson (occasionally joined by Dillard or Rottino).
