Stephen Strasburg expected to make next start - but Nationals will have contingencies

USA TODAY Sports

Stephen Strasburg is expected to make his next start, manager Dusty Baker told reporters Tuesday, although the Washington Nationals will make contingency plans in the event their All-Star right-hander has complications in throwing sessions.

Stephen Strasburg left Sunday's start against the Diamondbacks after just two innings pitched.

Strasburg left Sunday's start at Arizona after just two innings due to forearm stiffness. Baker said examinations by the club's medical staff indicated no complications, and Strasburg did not undergo an MRI.

He's in the first season of a seven-year, $175 million contract, and already has undergone one Tommy John surgery to reconstruct his throwing elbow.

Strasburg, 28, has struck out 141 batters in 121 2/3 innings this season, earning his second All-Star nod. He's also 10-3 with a 3.25 ERA. Strasburg's next scheduled start is Saturday at Nationals Park against the Colorado Rockies.
