Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was suspended one game by Major League Baseball for his actions during an argument with an umpire over a balk call, chief baseball officer Joe Torre announced Tuesday.

Farrell, who was also fined an undisclosed amount, got into a heated argument with third base umpire Bill Miller and poked him in the chest after he called a balk on Red Sox pitcher Fernando Abad as Los Angeles Angels batter Kole Calhoun requested "Time" from home plate umpire Ryan Blakney.

Ferrell was ejected -- his first of the season -- by Miller. He is serving his suspension Tuesday as the Red Sox host the Minnesota Twins.
