The Baltimore Orioles clinched their third playoff spot in five years, beating the New York Yankees 5-2 on Sunday behind a pair of two-run homers from Matt Wieters and a strong outing from Kevin Gausman.

The Orioles advance to Tuesday's wild card game against the Blue Jays at Toronto's Rogers Centre. Manager Buck Showalter did not announce who will start that game, though right-handers Chris Tillman and Ubaldo Jimenez are the likeliest candidates.

Baltimore won the inaugural AL wild card game in 2012, and advanced to the American League Championship Series in 2014. Since they lost Saturday, the Orioles had to burn their best starter, Gausman, to ensure advancement Sunday.

Gausman was up to the task. He pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits before handing a 5-1 lead to All-Star closer Zach Britton. Britton gave up an RBI single to Didi Gregorius, but recorded the final five outs for his 48th save.

The Orioles won 17 of their final 29 games to emerge from the wild card pack, ceding the AL East to the Boston Red Sox, but holding off the Tigers, Seattle Mariners and others.
