A strong season could be in the offing for the Port Washington boys tennis team.

"I am very optimistic about our season," coach Julie Hays said. "We have several new players who have not played tennis before, but look to be promising based off their dedication in practice and hard work. The team of boys that I am working with always put their best foot forward and I know this season will be one of the best ones yet."

Port opened with a 5-2 dual-meet victory over Howards Grove on April 6 behind victories from Ethan Hoag at first singles (6-2, 6-2), Aaron Montreal at second singles (6-1, 6-2), Jake Schmit at third singles (6-2, 6-4), Matt Huebner at fourth singles (6-0, 6-4) and the third doubles team of Neil Schlessinger and Thomas Garant (6-2, 6-4).

Port is now off until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, when it begins the North Shore Conference season at home (Jefferson Middle School) against Milwaukee Lutheran.
