An easy 60-17 victory over Nicolet on Jan. 25 gave the Port Washington wrestling team the North Shore Conference dual-meet championship.

Winners for the Pirates were Sal Gauthier at 152 pounds (pin in 33 seconds), Michael Murphy at 160 (pin in 1 minute, 19 seconds), Josh Holtebeck at 170 (pin in 5:33), Tristan Griswold at 195 (pin in 5:21), Aaron Steffen at 220 (pin in 1:42), Cody Lewis at heavyweight (3-0), Chad Spaeth at 106 (forfeit), Oliver Rosado at 120 (pin in 20 seconds), Tanner Meinel at 126 (pin in 24 seconds), Preston Makoutz at 132 (pin in 1:41) and Anthony Masters at 145 (7-6).

The triumph completes a 7-0 run through the North Shore, with no meet closer than 20 points.

Port will seek the North Shore Tournament crown as well at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Whitefish Bay. Germantown is expected to be the Pirates' toughest competition.

Port also sent wrestlers to two tournaments on Jan. 28, taking fourth with 118½ points at the Stark Memorial Invitational and 13th with 54½ points at the Pulaski Invitational.

At the Stark event, Brett Grisar won at 145 pounds, and third places went to Cody Green (126) and Angel Torres (132).

Cody Pierron came in fourth (138), and Holtebeck (160) and Noel Konitzer (120) placed fifth. Nathan Russell was sixth (152) and Brian Merow eighth (106).

At Pulaski, Gauthier was fifth (152), Murphy sixth (160) and Rosado seventh (120). Taking eighth were Makoutz (132), Lukas Burke (170) and Lewis (heavyweight).
