A combination of younger wrestlers and some experienced competitors make up this season's Grafton squad.

"We have somewhat of a split team this year," coach Mike Dodge said. "We are young in some spots but have some veteran guys as well. Overall, our mantra has been 'work hard, be tough and control those things that you can control.' We are focusing on the process of getting better."

Grafton, which has been toughened by competing in such tournaments as the Kimberly, Cedarburg and Oshkosh Invitationals, downed Milwaukee Lutheran, 58-21, in a North Shore Conference dual meet on Jan. 5.

"There were six matches actually wrestled, and we won four," Dodge said.

Winners for the Black Hawks were Logan Lamas at 160 pounds (pin in 1 minute, 3 seconds), Cody Case at 182 pounds (12-2 major decision), Ellis Pfleger at 126 (pin in 1:40) and Nick Swenson at 132 (pin in 2:42).

Picking up forfeits were Zach Laliberte (152), Nick Rapp (170), Alec Davis (195), Cielo Pagan (106), Mickenzie Houston (113) and Nathan Styles (120).

"Overall, this was a good dual meet for us," Dodge said.

The Hawks next take on powerful Port Washington at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at home in another North Shore dual meet.
