In just his junior season, Cedarburg basketball standout John Diener has become the school's all-time leading scorer.
Diener scored 17 points in a 63-52 triumph over Homestead on Feb. 23 to raise his career total to 1,529 points and top the mark of Chip Rank, who graduated in 2010.
He finished the regular season with an average of 21.6 points and helped lead the Bulldogs to an unbeaten 14-0 record in the North Shore Conference and a 20-2 mark overall. The Bulldogs have won nine straight games.
He led a balanced scoring attack against Homestead, with Jared Short tallying 16 points and Jordan Johnson and Matt Barber 13 points apiece. The Bulldogs were their usual accurate selves on the free-throw line as well, connecting on 22 of 26.
They will begin WIAA Division 2 regional play at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at home against either Port Washington or West Bend West. They defeated Port, 80-47 and 76-37, this season.
If they win, they will play a regional championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, possibly against Woodland Conference East Division co-champion Brown Deer, which is also on a roll of late.
