Calipari: I probably should've called timeout

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – John Calipari said he should have called a timeout immediately after Malik Monk's game-tying 3-pointer with nine seconds left in Kentucky's 75-73 South Region final loss to North Carolina at FedExForum on Sunday.

Monk made two 3-pointers in the final minute. The first one cut UNC's lead to one point; the second, with multiple defenders around Monk, tied the game at 73.

But the Tar Heels inbounded the ball so quickly after Monk's three, Calipari said he didn't even have time to think about the timeout. UNC's Theo Pinson drove the length of the floor and flipped a pass to his left, and former walk-on Luke Maye swished the game-winner with 0.3 seconds to play.

"I probably should have called a timeout," Calipari said. "It entered my mind, but they got that son-of-a-b in so quick, I couldn't get anybody to do it. But I needed to stop right there. Someone said, 'Well, what happened?' I said, 'I don't know, and I probably never will know because I won't watch this tape,' and I never watch the last tape of the season."
