The doubles teams ruled the day for the Cedarburg girls tennis squad in a WIAA Division 1 subsectional on Sept. 30 at Wauwatosa West.
The Bulldogs advanced all their doubles units out of the subsectional and on to sectional action, which was held Oct. 5 at Homestead High School.
The top four finishers in first singles and doubles and the winner of the second flight in singles and doubles automatically advances to the state individual tournament next week in Madison.
Qualifying for Cedarburg were the first team of Amanda Skonieczny and Hailey Haws, who took a 19-8 season record into the sectional; the second unit of Margot Henke and Marguerite Manning (23-8); and the third team of Sydney Weise and Claire Cummings (11-5).
They helped Cedarburg tally 20 points to place second behind Homestead (24 points) in the subsectional.
The Bulldogs started last week by finishing fourth with 20 points in the North Shore Conference tournament on Sept. 28 and 29.
Interestingly, six of their seven entries placed fourth as well: second singles player Alison Jeske, third singles player Willow Larson, fourth singles player Alexa Andrae, Haws/Lauren Ketelhohn at first doubles, Manning/Henke and Cummings/Weise. Ketelhohn was filling in for the ill Skonieczny.
Mia Andrae lost both her matches at first singles.
