PORT WASHINGTON - The Modern Equipment Company, LLC will be closing and cutting up to 59 employees at its site at 369 W. Western Ave.
Modern Equipment Company has been around for 98 years and is primarily engaged in the foundry and die casting business but also works with gas generation systems, contract manufacturing with metal fabrication and assembly abilities, and fabricates private label, custom machines, according to its website.
According to a notice filed with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, 25 salaried and administrative employees will have employment opportunities with a “separate but related business.”
It further said that business “may be outside regular commuting distance” so Modern Equipment Company will provide notice to all employees as it’s not known how many will be affected.
It’s expected separations will take place in stages starting July 10 and continue through Sept. 29.
The Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board's Rapid Response Team will contact the company to offer Rapid Response Services, according to the notice.
Employees who are part of production and maintenance at the site are represented by the District 10 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO Local 66.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is a state agency with primary responsibilities that include providing job services, training, and employment assistance to people looking for work, according to its website. They also work with employers on finding needed workers to fill current openings.
Modern Equipment Co. was founded in Milwaukee in 1919.
