The Unitarian Church North in Mequon is hosting a barn dance Oct. 8.
The church, 13800 N. Port Washington Rd., replicates the Clausing barns built in the area in the late 1800s according to a news release. The event will feature live music by the Banish Misfortune, a potluck dinner, and bake sale.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with the dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by three hours of dancing. The event is open to the public with no experience required. Childcare is available for $5 per child with suggested donations of $5 per person for dinner and $10 per person for the dance.
Traditionally during a barn dance a caller provides instructions before each dance. Participants are generally in lines and, like square dancing, partners are rotated, according to the release.
"This is a fun, family event for those who enjoy dancing – whether or not they’ve attended a barn dance before -- and for those who enjoy Irish or Old-Time music," the release reads.
Reservations, while not required, are requested and can be made with the church office, 262-375-3890.
