Eight students from the Mequon-Thiensville School District earned top rankings at the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Festival according to a news release May 16.

The music festival was held May 7 at Cardinal Stritch University.

Amy Koo, Heaven Kim, Grayson Eichmeier and Inga Salsbury of Steffen Middle School, and Daniel Shveytser, Natan Botshtein, Elizabeth Foster and Jacob Yasonik of Lake Shore Middle School were all award winners at the event.

Koo and Salsbury also both were recognized with Exemplary Solo Recognition Awards.

'These students have worked very hard to accomplish this success and we are very proud of all of them,' said middle school orchestra teacher Kirsten Ertl.

According to the release, 32,000 students qualify each year at district festivals to perform at State Solo and Ensemble festivals across Wisconsin.
