Mequon — Newcastle Place is holding its Memories in the Making Art Showcase May 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. according to a news release May 16.
'Even after people with dementia have lost the ability to use words, they are able to paint their thoughts, emotions and memories in a manner that is expressive and beautiful, using art as their voice,' the release states.
The event will be in The Highlands at Newcastle Place, a senior living community, in the Highlands Lobby, 12600 N. Port Washington Road in Mequon, is free and open to the public.
Residents of the Newcastle Place Memory Care Unit have been participating in Memories in the Making for the past year. The Alzheimer's Association program offers 'creative art expression for individuals in the early to middle stages of Alzheimer's disease,' according to the release.
