Mequon — Melissa McCrady is resigning from her position as communications director of the Mequon-Thiensville School District so she can tend to her 10-month-old son.
McCrady, a former anchor and reporter for TMJ 4, was hired as Mequon-Thiensville's communications director in 2013. She gave birth in March to her son Charlie, who was born with an extra thumb, a large birthmark and glaucoma in his right eye. Doctors suspect he has a rare genetic disorder, but have so far been unable to make a diagnosis.
Faced with the difficult juggling of doctor's visits and work responsibilities, McCrady said she had no choice to resign.
McCrady's last day is Jan. 22. Her position is being advertised and is expected to be filled by March. In a letter to parents, Superintendent Demond Means said McCrady did an exceptional job of rebranding the district, organizing the creation of a community magazine and improving the district's communications efforts.
