Patrick Manner believes in exercise not for the benefits of physical appearance, but for the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and state of mind.
A former HR executive at Johnson Controls, Manner opened CrossFit Unbroken in Cedarburg in late 2015 to share that approach to exercise with others.
"Most gyms are equipped to enhance your 'vanity muscles,'" said Manner. "CrossFit is designed to improve your overall quality of life through functional movement exercises."
Manner will now open a second CrossFit Unbroken location in Grafton after approval from the village plan commission on April 25. The commission voted unanimously to approve the new gym, which will be located on Dakota Drive just off Highway 60.
The 10,500-square-foot space, which is unoccupied, will house the CrossFit facility. According to Manner, the gym will feature minimal equipment and will not rely on the typical electrical equipment found in most gyms.
Manner explained to the plan commission that his Cedarburg location has grown in terms of members even without extra outside signage, with most classes serving around 15 participants. Visitors to the gym have ranged in age from 13 to 72.
"We've been able to grow in the area outside of Cedarburg simply from customer referrals," explained Manner. "Our new Grafton location, which will have even more space for additional classes and equipment, will be able to better serve participants all over the county."
The new CrossFit Unbroken location is expected to open June 1, with special deals being offered for new members. For more information, visit the website at http://www.crossfitunbroken.com/.
