Right on the heels of the St. Francis Borgia project, another major apartment development could be finding its way to the city of Cedarburg.
At its meeting on Monday, April 3, the Cedarburg Plan Commission reviewed plans for a 192-unit apartment development on Sheboygan Road near Highway 60 near the Glen at Cedar Creek. The development, proposed by landowner Duey Stroebel, calls for 12, two-story apartment buildings with 16 units each of two-bedroom, one-bedroom, and studio apartments.
According to the proposal, the finished property will have a taxable value of more than $20 million.
Amenities in the complex would include almost 400 spots for parking, in-unit washers and dryers, a private pool, and a 24-hour fitness facility. Rent is expected to range from $1,200 to $2,000 a month.
In order to move forward with this project, the city will have to approve changes to the zoning and land use plan on the property to accommodate the development's proposed density of 10.3 units per gross acre.
Stroebel's proposed development also happens to be located just north of condominium units also being built on Sheboygan Road. Plans call for the new development to have a 50-foot buffer between the two complexes.
During the meeting, Stroebel also fielded questions concerning sewer and water facilities that would serve the complex, which Stroebel acknowledged has been factored into the development plans.
The April 3 meeting was an opportunity for the plan commission to review the concepts and provide questions and feedback, so the commission did not have to vote an approval. Zoning and land use plan changes must be approved before these plans can be presented to the common council.
