Three local veterans will be taking a Stars and Stripes Honor Flight on April 8, the organization's 38th mission.

Mequon resident William "Earl" Johnson served in the Korean War Army gun battalion. Robert Schulz, a Thiensville resident, served in the Army during the Korean War. Ken Keith served in the Korean War Army infantry and is from Cedarburg.

The Stars and Stripes Honor Flight flies World War II, Korean War and other veterans on an all-expenses-paid trip to see the memorials in Washington, D.C., as a thank you for their service.

Since 2008, 4,818 veterans have taken the trip, according to Karyn Roelke, vice president of public relations for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. The flight is run by an all-volunteer organization with 98 cents of every dollar going directly to the missions and about 250 active volunteers.

Additional flights this year are scheduled for May 21, June 9, Sept. 16, Oct. 14 and Nov. 4.
