The Mequon Police Department is now accepting reservations for the 2017 Citizens Police Academy.
The academy is a six-week program running Thursday, March 2, through April 6.
This is the opportunity for residents of Mequon and Thiensville or people who work in those communities to get an inside look and a better understanding of how police officers perform their duties.
Topics covered include defense and arrest tactics, the use of a Taser, detection of drunken drivers and firearms training. There will also be a presentation by K-9 Officer Iron.
Class size is limited to 20 people and those interested are urged to sign up quickly. Participants must be at least 21 and have no criminal convictions.
Classes meet on Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., with a few exceptions, in the Mequon Safety Building, 11200 N. Buntrock Ave.
Applications are available at the Mequon Police Department or online at www.ci.mequon.wi.us. Click on Departments then Police.
