Katy Perry confirms Taylor Swift feud: 'It's time for her to finish it'

James Corden would like to take the beef off the grill. Specifically the "Taylor beef."

Katy Perry joined the Late Late Show host for a spin on his "Carpool Karaoke" segment on Monday night, with parts of their ride airing on Corden's primetime special and the full segment airing later on Late Late. During the bit, Corden brought up the what he called "some famous beef," aka the feud between Perry and Taylor Swift.

Although rumors have been circulating for years, neither artist has outright confirmed the disagreement or discussed the other by name. But fans have long speculated about the drama, especially after Swift released Bad Blood, a single off her 2015 album 1989, and told Rolling Stone it was about another female artist.

Perry was not afraid to divulge details to Corden after the pair sang a clip fro her new diss track, Swish Swish, which fans believe is be about Swift.

"There's a situation," she said after Corden brought up the "Taylor beef" during their car ride. "Honestly, it’s really like, she started it and it’s time for her to finish it."

Perry confirmed that a scuffle over backup dancers was the long-rumored source start of the feud.

“It’s so crazy!” Perry explained. “Okay, so there are three backing dancers that went on tour with her tour, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course. I’m not on a record cycle and get the work, and she’s great and all that. But I will be on a record cycle probably in about a year. So be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me when I say I’m going back on.’ So that year came up, right? And I texted all of them because I’m very close with them and I said, ‘Look, just FYI, I’m about to start. I want to put the word out there. And they said, ‘Okay, we’re going to go and talk to management about it.’ And they did, and they got fired. And I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn't speak to me."

"So you tried to talk to her about it?" Corden asked. "You (called her)?"

"I do the right thing," Perry said. “Any time that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me. I’m like, ‘Okay, cool. Cool. That’s how you want to deal with it? Karma.' But what I want to say is I'm ready for that BS to be done," she added. "Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something and there’s gonna be a reaction. And trust me, daddy, there’s gonna be a reaction.”

Corden, not wanting to lose his metaphor, asked if we could "take the beef off the grill."

“I think, personally, that women together — not divided and, like, none of this petty (expletive) — women together will heal the world," adding that she would "100%" be responsive if Swift reached out.

Will we see Swift taking a turn in Corden's car or adding her version of the narrative on Twitter? We'll just have to wait and see.

Perry's "Carpool Karaoke" segment was not available on YouTube at publish time, but the full Late Late Show episode containing it is available on CBS.com.
